Deputy Director of the Institute for Education Studies (IFEST), Patrick Apea-Danquah has called on parents and guardians to work on making sure that their children always find themselves in ‘reasonably controlled environments’.
He stated this on the back of the a viral video of some students from the Chiana Senior High School in the Upper East region for making derogatory comments against President Akufo Addo.
The Ghana Education Service then went ahead to dismiss the students for making those remarks against the President.
Speaking to UniversNews, Patrick Apea- Danquah noted that the gravity of the punishment meted out to the students was harsh and called on the GES to reconsider alternative measures.
He further urged parents to take interest to watch that their children ingest from the environments they find themselves in.
“The punishment that was given to them was a bit harsh because if you respectfully put aside the GES and the President, [the President] he has ardent followers… so it is in the interest of these children that they are corrected properly for their own good and their own safety. The highest form it could take is a misdemeanor, and if anyone commits a misdemeanor, we don’t take our their rights. It is in the interest of the parents to make sure that their children are in a reasonably controlled environment so that we can watch how they are growing and be careful of the things they ingest,” he said.
