The Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lecture Series is an annual event organized by the University of Ghana to honor the contributions of three key figures in the country’s educational and developmental history: Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey, Sir Gordon Guggisberg, and Dr. Alexander G. Fraser. These individuals played pivotal roles in shaping higher education in Ghana, particularly in the establishment and growth of the University of Ghana.

Established in 1957, the lecture series serves as a platform for intellectual discussions on education, leadership, governance, and national development. Each year, distinguished scholars, policymakers, and experts are invited to share insights on critical societal issues, fostering academic discourse and national progress.

The 2025 edition of the lecture series is scheduled for March 13th and 14th at 4:30 PM each day at the Great Hall, University of Ghana. This year’s speaker is Mrs. Josephine Anan-Ankomah, Regional Executive at Ecobank for Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa and Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya. She will deliver a lecture on the theme: “Her Money, Her Power: Making Finance Work for Women.”

The event will be chaired by Mrs. Yvette Adounvo Atekpe, Council Member, on Day 1, and Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, on Day 2.

The two-day lecture series will end with a conferment of honorary doctorate degree on the lecturer.

The Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lecture Series continues to be a significant intellectual tradition, reinforcing the University of Ghana’s commitment to academic excellence and national development.
