The University of Ghana’s Management has announced that random bed allocation for freshers at the university will come off on Thursday, 11th January 2024.
The random bed allocation requires freshers to have paid at least half of the required annual fees followed by a successful course registration to participate in the by-chance selection exercise through a link on the STS portal.
In a note released by the university, there was strong emphasis on the need for newly admitted students to have completed the above-mentioned registration to be eligible for the exercise. It was also noted that students who take part in the exercise are only going to be placed in traditional halls provided they are privileged to be selected for hall allocation.
“Note that registration cannot be undertaken if at least 50% of the academic fees has not been paid.”
“Please note that successful registration is a prerequisite for eligibility in the Random Bed Allocation process at the traditional Halls only. Please ensure that you opt for Random Bed Allocation during registration in order to be considered. If you have already registered but did not opt for the Random Bed Allocation, login to your student’s account and opt for it.”
Meanwhile, newly admitted students who do not have interest in partaking in the exercise or have been unable to acquire accommodation were recommended private hostels as well as nearby off-campus accomodation options.
“Students who are not interested in the Random Bed Allocation or unable to secure accommodation through the process may seek accommodation at any of the private hostels on campus and Heaven’s Gate Hostel near UPSA.”
“For any assistance or enquiries, do not hesitate to reach out on WhatsApp to the Admission Help Desk on 0200480344.”
The random bed allocation was initially adopted during the 2023/24 academic year earlier in the semester to provide an avenue for every student to have a fair chance of acquiring accommodation on campus.
The exercise, which will begin at 12:00pm, will be broadcasted live on the university’s youtube channel, UniversityGhana (@universityofghana) for a much better avenue for external supervision and effective transparency of the process.
