In a generous move to bolster media resources, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development) of the University of Ghana, has made a meaningful donation of vital broadcasting equipment to Radio Univers. This donation is aimed at significantly enhancing the station’s capacity to disseminate research findings and other engaging content beneficial to the university and the public.

Addressing this act of generosity, Prof. Asante highlighted the significance of the donation in fortifying Radio Univers’ efforts in effectively sharing valuable research insights as part of the program “Research Agenda,” skillfully hosted by Alhaji Sidick.

Expressing his attachment to the station, Prof. Asante underscored the historical link that has bound him to Radio Univers since the days of his directorship at ISSER. This shared history has provided him with a deep understanding of the station’s operational challenges, despite its commendable management and zealous student volunteers.

This altruistic act is a response to a proposal from the Station Manager and aligns with Prof. Asante’s observation of the coverage and reporting limitations faced by the Public Affairs Directorate of the University. His vision for this donation is to foster greater collaboration between the Directorate and Radio Univers, facilitating the wider dissemination of university-generated content and information aimed at the public.

In reciprocation, the Director of Public Affairs expressed profound gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its potential to significantly enhance the station’s operational capabilities. She voiced a hopeful anticipation for the continued growth of collaboration between her office and Radio Univers.

Dr. Abubakari Sidick Ahmed, the Station Manager, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the generosity of Prof. Asante and ORID, recognizing the transformative impact of the equipment. He underlined the multifaceted capacity of the donated equipment to not only generate and store content but also to maintain high-quality sound output, crucial for elevating the standard of electronic media presentations.

Dr. Sidick took the opportunity to call for the establishment of a Broadcasting Service Centre by the University, with the potential to offer an array of media services to amplify the work of the Public Affairs Directorate. Additionally, he drew attention to the need for the University to repurpose the allocated old stable to Radio Univers, an asset that could serve as a hub for numerous media houses, particularly during the coverage of the African games.

The handover ceremony was graced by the presence of dignitaries from the University, including Mrs. Songsore Pascaline Kuunzungla, Mrs. Cynthia Adu, Mr. Anthony Hofe Hommo, and Mr. Duke Yaw Danquah, all representing ORID, the office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor.

This act of generosity and the collaborative spirit it fosters augur well for the future of Radio Univers, promising expanded horizons, enriched content, and strengthened partnerships in the realm of knowledge dissemination and public engagement.
