The Ghana Police Service has arrested some eighteen students of the University of Ghana following disturbances on the University’s campus on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.
In a post from the Ghana Police Service, the students were among some 200 students believed to be former members of the Commonwealth Hall.
“The Police have today, Tuesday, 14th February 2023 arrested 18 people for disturbances on the University of Ghana campus. The 18 suspects were together with about 200 others believed to be former members of the Commonwealth Hall of the university.”
The suspects, according to the Police, will be arraigned before court.
“All 18 suspects are in Police custody and will be put before the court to face Justice”
The Police further stated that security had been beefed up in the university to prevent any further altercations.
“Security has since been deepened on the campus for academic activities to continue without any hindrance. We would like to give the assurance that all other persons involved in the disturbances will be arrested and brought to face justice”.

The Accra High Court on Thursday, 12th January 2023 ruled restraining the University of Ghana Management from implementing the new residential policy.
These students say that the management of the University of Ghana has failed to implement the ruling which forced them to picket at the entrance of the hall.
However, a member of the University of Ghana Communication team, Prof. Ransford Gyampo in an interview with Citi News said the University will enforce the injunction on its own.
“Before the substance of the matter is heard, they ask for an injunction. Merely asking for an injunction or even if a court grants an injunction, does not preclude those who have been injuncted from asking for a stay of execution and appealing against the decision. So it is lawless for someone to say that the court has granted an injuncted, so we are going to enforce the injunction ourselves.”
