The Management of the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) has issued a disclaimer in response to a trending allegation claiming that the school is offering concessionary admissions to wards of staff for a purported fee of GH₵5,000.

The disclaimer serves as a caution to members of the University community and the general public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to individuals exploiting the image and reputation of the Medical School for fraudulent purposes.

In a statement dated January 22 and issued by the Office of the Dean, Management clarified that no such admission arrangement exists. The statement further indicated that there is no institution known as the University of Ghana Admissions and Regulatory Board, as being circulated in the alleged scam.

According to the statement, there has also been no instance where any Senior Staff member of the University has been required to pay for concessionary admission into the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme.

“The attention of the Office of the Dean of the Medical School has been drawn to a purported scam being perpetrated in the public domain about UGMS offering concessionary admissions to wards of Senior Staff Members of the University for an amount of GH₵5,000 to read the MBChB programme this year,” the statement said.

“There is no officially sanctioned move by the Management of the University to offer any concessionary admissions to wards of staff members at a pegged fee of GH₵5,000.”

The Office of the Dean has therefore urged staff and members of the public to disregard the misinformation and avoid engaging with any individuals making such claims.

Management of the University of Ghana Medical School has since disassociated itself from the alleged scam and assured the public that steps are being taken to address the situation.
