The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG), Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has urged students to ensure they graduate as digitally savvy individuals.

She made this call during the presentation of 100 laptops by the UGSRC Welfare Scheme as part of efforts to support the “One Student, One Laptop” initiative.

“I say that no matter what you come to the University of Ghana to study, by the time you leave, you should be a digitally savvy graduate. Whatever your ambitions—whether you are looking for a job, starting your own venture, or going into research—you definitely need to know your way around a computer.”

She further emphasised that this goal can be achieved through collaboration with alumni, noting that students are better able to relate to individuals who have experienced similar academic and professional journeys.

According to her, such interactions help bridge the gap between theory and practical application.

“One of the things I encourage our alumni, particularly, to do is to return to the classroom and spend some time with our students—perhaps two to three hours over a two-week period. Students are able to relate very well to such engagements. Sometimes, they think lecturers are limited to theory, but when they see professionals who have practical experience partnering with us in the classroom, it becomes very encouraging for them.”
