The Information Technology Directorate of the University of Ghana, formerly known as the University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS), has introduced an audio guide to assist students experiencing difficulties recovering their university Gmail accounts.
This initiative, aims to address the widespread challenges students have faced in regaining access to their email accounts as a results of the university’s transition from Google services to Microsoft 365.
The audio guide provides a step-by-step process to resolve common email recovery issues, making it both user-friendly and accessible. The resource is available on the IT Directorate’s website and other communication platforms, and it is expected to significantly reduce the backlog of unresolved complaints while enabling students to troubleshoot independently.
This measure comes as a response to mounting concerns about disruptions in academic correspondence caused by account lockouts and password reset difficulties.
The IT Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to supporting smooth digital engagement for students. They attributed the ongoing disruptions to the university’s transition from Google services to Microsoft 365, as announced in an email from the Chief Officer’s office on November 15, 2024. This transition, prompted by a potential GHS 500,000 cost, has impacted access to Gmail accounts.
Steps to Restore Access to Your Account:
1. Download the Microsoft Outlook app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Open the app and log in using your email address and password.
3. If issues persist, visit the STS portal, select “Email-Related Problems,” and submit a complaint to retrieve your account.
The IT Directorate believes the audio guide will help students resolve these issues faster and resume normal academic activities.
