The Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana (UG), Professor Rosina Kyerematen, has cautioned that any student found deliberately posting an opponent’s campaign flyers in unauthorised locations will be disqualified from the election in which their candidate is contesting.
Her comments come amid allegations by some students that campaign materials are being deliberately placed in restricted areas to get opponents disqualified, following the University’s directive ordering individuals who had posted flyers in unauthorised locations to remove them within 48 hours or risk disqualification.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on August 3, 2026, Professor Kyerematen warned that any aspiring student leader found engaging in the act would face immediate disqualification.
“If any member of an aspiring student leader’s campaign team, or an aspiring student leader, is found posting the flyer of an opponent in an unauthorised place, they will be disqualified immediately from the elections because that is diabolical,” she cautioned.
She further reiterated the University’s decision to sanction individuals who violate the rules governing the posting of campaign flyers in unauthorised locations.
“We gave aspiring leaders 48 hours to remove their campaign flyers. This week, we will conduct inspections across campus and publish the names of those who fail to comply. First-time offenders will be fined, while any subsequent violation will result in the aspirant’s disqualification from the elections.”
Professor Kyerematen added that a special unit within the UG Safety and Security Services Directorate has been tasked with ensuring compliance with the directive across campus.
“We have a unit responsible for monitoring the posting of flyers on campus. Not all security personnel on campus are tasked with this responsibility. Officers within that unit have been given the mandate to order the removal of flyers posted in unauthorised locations,” she said.
The enforcement exercise forms part of broader efforts to curb the indiscriminate posting of flyers and other notices across campus while ensuring that student election campaigns are conducted in accordance with University regulations.
