The Appeals Board of the University of Ghana has unanimously overturned the disqualification of UGSRC presidential candidates Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah and Maradona Adjei Yeboah. The board’s decision, delivered with a 7-0 vote, mandates that their names, along with their running mates, be reinstated in the list of candidates.

The Appeals Board’s ruling follows earlier controversies surrounding the disqualification of Manuel Life’s running mate, Lawrence Egleh and Maradona Adjei Yeboah, who were initially barred from the race by the UGSRC electoral commission. The disqualification was based on their failure to meet certain hall-specific eligibility requirements, which led to significant debate and allegations of procedural irregularities.

The Vice Dean’s directive includes immediate actions for the electoral commissioner: the balloting for all SRC candidates is scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs (ODSA). The date for the final election is to be agreed upon by the candidates but must occur before or by Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

This latest decision by the Appeals Board follows the earlier controversial ruling by the UGSRC Judicial Board, which had upheld the disqualification of Manual Life and Guru’s tickets.
