The University of Ghana is set for an exciting weekend as it hosts the UG Corporate Tennis Championship this Saturday, October 25, 2025.

A press conference was held at the UG Sports and Wellness Directorate on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, to set the tone for what promises to be an engaging and entertaining sporting event.

Speaking at the briefing, Senior Assistant Registrar at the UG Sports and Wellness Directorate, Augustine Amissare, emphasized that the championship aims to promote health and wellness in the workplace, strengthen corporate relationships, and encourage corporate support for the university’s sports infrastructure.

“Wellness is important, and we believe that for any company to be successful, you need a healthy staff. So, we want this to be more than just a competition — we want to bring corporate institutions together,” he stated.

Touching on preparations, Mr. Amissare revealed that the university’s tennis courts are undergoing maintenance ahead of the weekend’s showdown.

“Come Saturday, the courts will look brand new and ready for this exercise,” he assured.

He further explained that this year’s competition will feature four corporate institutions — Goil, Stanbic Bank, Volta River Authority (VRA), and Ghana Civil Avitaion Authority (GCAA), with participants competing in both singles and doubles matches. Each event will be capped at nine games, with tiebreakers set at eight.

Participating companies have also been reminded to meet submission deadlines and strictly adhere to tournament rules to avoid penalties.

The UG Corporate Tennis Championship is expected to match the excitement and standards set by the Corporate Football League, further strengthening corporate collaboration while promoting fitness, wellness, and camaraderie among participating institutions.
