As part of the University of Ghana’s 75th Anniversary celebration, Akuafo Hall is set to hold an agricultural festival dubbed ‘Akuafo Agrifest’ come Thursday, November 23, 2023.

The festival is aimed at acknowledging the work of farmers who  made a generous gesture to the university some years ago by providing funding for the foundation of the then University College of Gold Coast. In addition, the festival seeks to mobilize farmers to have extensive dialogues on the way forward for the agricultural community.

The event is expected to come off with an exciting range of activities from public lectures to exhibitions of farm produce in an open market at the quadrangle in the middle of the Akuafo Hall Annexes.

In light of this, Senior Hall Tutor for Akuafo Hall, Dr. George Kodie Frimpong has promised affordability and wholesomeness of farm produce during the hall’s Farmer’s Market event.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive, Dr. Frimpong mentioned that the cost of farm produce will be relatively low during the Farmer’s Market even as the hall’s management is putting in the necessary initiative to provide transportation for farmers and their produce.

“We say that food is expensive because transporting it becomes an issue. Now we are bringing them in so we can be assured of affordability and freshness. The food is going to be brought right from the farms. “

Senior Hall Assistant for Akuafo Hall, Rebecca Zaah on her part called on all individuals in the university community and outside to join in the event. On Campus Exclusive, she stated that the event is open to all and will provide opportunities for individuals to gain a unique experience that combines shopping, networking, and knowledge sharing.

“This event is not just for the university community but also welcomes those from outside. You will get the opportunity to discover more about agriculture, connect with like-minded individuals, and gain valuable insights. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to grow your network and deepen your understanding of the agricultural world.”

The event will be graced by the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mike Ocquaye as Guest Speaker, along with 2022 National Best Farmer, Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe as the main speaker.
