President of the Ghana football Association Kurt Okraku has charged Ghana’s black meteors to secure qualification to the under 23 AFCON in Morocco slated for June this year.
The meteors head into the second league of the under-23 AFCON qualifiers against the Algerians on Tuesday at the Baba Yara sports stadium with an away goal advantage in the first league courtesy of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku long range strike which helped the side escape defeat in the game.
Ibrahim Tanko’s side are a win away from qualifying for the Under 23 AFCON in Morocco if they are able to churn out a triumphant result against the Algerians.
GFA president Kurt Okraku has tasked the black meteors team to make history by beating Algeria and making it to the U-23 AFCON and ultimately qualify for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.
“Again that would potentially take us to Morocco and hopefully bring us back on the Olympics platform where we have been missing since the year 2004. What that means is that history beckons all of us and the effect of we potentially being at the tournament will be amazing to each one of you and to our dear country Ghana.
2004 has been a very long year, long, long journey nineteen years since Ghana was at the Olympics. fortunately the next Olympics will be in my home country that is Paris and is important all of us keep our focus and work towards a slot for the African country and for our dear country,” Kurt said.
The black meteors team led by Ibrahim Tanko are expected to break the nineteen-year old jinx and to qualify for the U-23 AFCON and make it to the Olympic games to resurrect the interest in the team in order to elevate the standard of football in Ghana.
The second league of the qualifiers will take place on Tuesday March 28, 2022 at the Baba Yara sports stadium at 4pm Ghana time.
