Tunisia delivered an impressive performance to defeat Uganda 3–1 in a rain-affected Group C encounter at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday, December 23, in Rabat.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Carthage Eagles dominated large spells of the match and scored through Ellyes Skhiri and a brace from Elias Achouri to move top of the group on goal difference, ahead of Nigeria who earlier edged Tanzania 2–1.
Tunisia were on the front foot from the opening whistle and took the lead in the 10th minute when Skhiri rose highest to meet Hannibal Mejbri’s corner, guiding his header in off the inside of the post.
Uganda gradually found their rhythm but struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Tunisia continued to threaten, with Mejbri firing narrowly wide in the 27th minute after a swift move down the right.
The wet surface slowed the pace but did little to disrupt Tunisia’s control, and they doubled their advantage five minutes before the break. Achouri volleyed home Ali Abdi’s cross from the left to make it 2–0.
Uganda made a double change at the start of the second half, introducing Denis Omedi and Travis Mutyaba, but Tunisia remained in control and added a third goal in the 64th minute.
Achouri pounced from close range after Salim Magoola could only parry Abdi’s low effort into the danger area.
The Cranes kept pushing and were rewarded with a consolation goal in stoppage time when Omedi’s effort deflected into the net, completing the 3–1 scoreline.
Both sides continue their Group C campaigns on Saturday, December 27, with Uganda facing Tanzania in Rabat and Tunisia preparing for a heavyweight clash against Nigeria in Fez.
