Technology is key in building a strong culture – Ghana Culture Forum Chair

Chairperson for the Ghana Culture Forum, Asare Konadu Yamoah has emphasized on the role of technology in building a strong culture and evaluating cultural progress.

He was speaking at the 12th Ghana Culture Day Symposium and 3rd National Delegate Conference which took place on 14th March, 2023 at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre for Excellence in ICT in Accra. The conference was dubbed “Culture, Technology and current trends/ Making the youth the Centre of Transformation.”

Mr. Yamoah advocated for a robust culture-based technology to serve as a gauge of cultural advancement. According to him, it is critical that modern technology is integrated into our society to avoid conflict between these two components.

“Technology affects all components of culture. Technology is key in building a strong culture, and a measure of evaluating cultural progress. It is therefore important that we find a way of creating harmony between our culture and emerging technologies, else there could be friction between these technologies and our quest to preserve aspects of our culture. There is always the need to allow people embrace new technologies rationally, after all, culture is dynamic and has to accommodate new forms of life changing innovations.”

 He suggested the embracement of digitalization and technology to progress the culture structure of the society. According to him, technology is an opportunity to develop and enhance culture.

“Today, technology and digital environment have been another opportunity for the development and enhancement of our culture. There’s no way these disruptions could be avoided, we therefore have to embrace them and seek to project positives that it presents for the progress of our culture structure of the societies.”

Mr. Yamoah also emphasized on the role of the youth as the foundation of our culture. He cited the Ghana Culture Forum’s role consideration of young people as the conduit for anything positive that may contribute to growth and development. He went on to express hope in the youth’s capability to enhance the Ghanaian cultural identity in the future.

“The young ones are clearly the anchor for our culture and provides the hope for the best option for real transformation. Ghana Culture Forum has always considered these young ones as the vehicle for anything good that could work out for growth and development. The debates are one of the strategies and after two sessions, we have every believe that when it is properly structured with the outcome being used for planning, the youth will have great interest, in our culture enhancement and be the drivers of our identity into the future.”
