Reggae/Dancehall superstar Stonebwoy has revealed why a much-anticipated remix of his hit song “Jejereje,” featuring Skrewfaze, will not be released. In a candid interview on Onua Showtime with Nana Ama McBrown on November 3, 2024, Stonebwoy addressed fan requests for the collaboration, explaining that while he had considered the possibility, it ultimately wouldn’t be commercially viable.
The “Jejereje” hitmaker explained that decisions regarding collaborations and remixes are made with commercial factors in mind, in consultation with his management team. He emphasized that features are not just about “niceness” or fan demands but must also align with strategic goals for his music career.
“When the song came out a lot of people mentioned Skrewfaze and he was even happy about it and even did a video. But Portfolio made a statement; the industry is big. Maybe you see it from a fan point of view. But if you break it down, it will just be for the niceness of it. Because already, I have planned to do a lot of remixes. But [for the Skrewfaze feature] it will not bring any further commercial factor in the geographical location where we find ourselves. If I had called him for a feature, it would just be for the niceness. I have heard people talking about the fact that I should have a remix of the Jejereje song with Skrewfaze. It is a good idea but adding him to the song will not add any commercial factor to the song. It would only be for its niceness,” he said.
Fans of both artists had been eagerly anticipating the collaboration, especially after Stonebwoy and Skrewfaze teased the idea of a remix. However, the reggae star clarified that while he respects Skrewfaze as an artist, the timing and commercial factors were not favorable for such a project at this point.
Stonebwoy’s response has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some expressing disappointment, while others understand the importance of considering the business side of the music industry. Despite the remix not moving forward, Stonebwoy remains committed to delivering quality music and collaborating with artists who share his vision.
As Stonebwoy continues to dominate the African music scene with hits like “Jejereje,” it’s clear that his approach to collaborations is calculated, aiming for both artistic integrity and commercial success.
