High jumper Evans Cadman has heralded fellow colleague Rose Yeboah, labeling her as the greatest female African high jumper ahead of the summer’s Olympic Games.

Cadman and Rose were two of three track and field competitors who brought smiles to the faces of Ghanaians as they snag gold in their respective men and women high jump events at the 13th African Games.

The 24-year-old, who was 0.01m off the national record with a 2.23m leap at the African Games, was full of praise and admiration for Rose, who met the 1.97m Olympic entry mark.

I have always believed in Rose, right from Kumasi girls, to UCC, to the US. I have always believed in her. Rose and I have been really close; the motivation, we encourage each other. I’m ecstatic for her to have qualified for the Olympics, he told Univers Sports.

She should go and have fun. She should go compete. I know she is a competitor, so she should go, put up her best, and have fun. She is the greatest when it comes to female high jump in Africa, he added.

Rose Yeboah’s impressive NCAA Women’s leap of 1.97m for her college saw her shatter 6 records, including the NCAA record, national record, personal best, school record, meet record, and collegiate record.

Her participation at the forthcoming Olympics means that, the former University of Cape Coast student will become the first Ghanaian woman to feature in the high jump at the Games, and the third Ghanaian since Robert Kotei in 1960.
