Champion of the 2023 edition of the third national ranking tournament in Ghana, Samuel Antwi has stated that this year’s tournament is the most difficult one he has ever participated in after clinching the trophy that has eluded him in his tennis career.

The tennis top seed in Ghana had failed to win the tournament in previous editions after finishing second and third as his best positions in the last two years it was organized.

He overcame tough opponents like Nyamekye, Abubakar, Ayaaba and Johnson Acquah whom he defeated in the finals  to win the ultimate.

In an exclusive interview with Univers Sports after the competition, Samuel Antwi attributed his success to hard work and adequate preparations prior to the tournament as the key factors that propelled him to emerge victorious this time around.

“Luckily for me I emerged as the winner. It  was tough tournament and it has also been one of the most difficult tournaments I have participated in because I have never won the national ranking tour three before. I have been a the runner up before. last year I was a semi finalist and this year the tables turned and then I got hold of the title. I think I prepared well with my team, I travelled to play a tournament in Togo and Burkina Faso so coming into the tournament I was fully prepared,” he told Univers Sports

He also indicated that he is preparing towards an upcoming international tournament in Ivory Coast and Davis Cup.

Samuel seized the opportunity to thank all those who contributed to his triumph.

“Currently am working with my team and my next target is to participate in a tournament in Ivory Coast and then from there I will come back home train with the team and then I will be ready for the upcoming Davis Cup and tour four I would like to thank my manager, coach, patron and all my friends who supported me since day one” Samuel Antwi added.

The reigning TPG champion is the current number one in Ghana national tennis ranking of players and his winning streak this year is yet to be seen whether he can hold on to it in the upcoming TPG tour 4 tournament.
