Qatar 2022: Otto Addo names Black Star squad for world cup

Black stars head Coach Otto Addo has announced the 26- man squad for the black stars of Ghana at the DSTV head office in Accra.

after a long wait, head Coach Otto Addo has finally unveiled the squad for the world cup in Qatar.

The selected players are:

GOALKEEPERS:

Manaf Nurudeen, Danlad Ibrahim and Lawrence Ati Zigi.

DEFENDERS:

Denis Odoi, Tariq Lamptey, Alidu Seidu, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, Abdul-Rahman Baba, Gideon Mensah

MIDFIELDERS:

Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Elisha Owusu, Salis Abdul Samed, Mohammed Kudus, Daniel Kofi Kyereh

STRIKERS:

Daniel Barnieh Afriyie, Kamal Sowah, Issahaku Abdul Fatawu, Osman Bukari, Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Notable names that missed out on the list include, Joseph Paintil of KRC GENK, Felix Afena Gyan of Cremonese, Jeffery Schlupp of Crystal palace, and Mubarak Wakaso.

Those who missed out due to injury include number one Goalkeeper Joojo Wollacot, MALLORCA midfielder Baba Iddrisu and Richard Ofori of Orlando Pirates.

Head Coach Otto Addo thanked GFA president Kurt Okraku for believing in him and shared sentiments with the players who missed out on the squad

” So first of all I would like to say thank you the GFA president for believing in me from day one letting me do my work how I wanted to be. I want to have a very balanced team, this led to difficult decisions and I had to make some very very close decisions so I’m sorry for those who didn’t make it on the team due to injuries or due to my decision and surely I have the last words because I know how we want to play and it just a pity but this is football and this is the job I took and then I have to do the job well. I have to do everything well just to serve the country and to bring the best possible squad on the pitch”
Coach Otto Addo said.

Black stars have been placed in group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

Ghana will begin its campaign on Friday, 24 November 2022 against European giants Portugal and later take on the south American sides Uruguay and South Korea respectively at the group stage.
