The Ghana National Amputee Football Team has reached out to the Government of Ghana and corporate entities for support as they gear up for the 2024 Amputee Football African Cup of Nations, set to take place in Egypt.

The team’s technical staff held a press conference on Monday, urging the government, Ministry of Youth & Sports, and the public to support their efforts in securing funds for their participation in the upcoming Africa Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON).

The Ghana National Amputee Team (Black Challenge) holds the title as defending champions of the Amputee African Cup of Nations, having won the tournament hosted in Tanzania.

Additionally, they clinched Gold at the inaugural African Paralympic Games held in Ghana in 2023 by defeating Morocco 2-1 in the final match.

During the press conference held yesterday, General Secretary of the team, Mr. Mohammed Huzair highlighted some challenges faced by the team in their previous tournaments.

In fact the plight of our players very sad, getting food, accommodation and transportation is serious, but we are self-motivated to succeed

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Univers Sports on Tuesday, the Techincal Director of the team and former Ghanaian Goalkeeper, Mr Ali Jaara, pleaded with the Government to provide all necessary resources needed by the team for preparations ahead of their AFCON tournament.

We are calling on the Ministry to fulfill all promises to the team. We have a tournament in April which will also serve as qualification for the 2024 World Cup, due to inadequate funds we have not started camping yet. We have sent our budget to authorities but we have not heard anything from them yet. We are pleading with the Government to come to our aid else we can’t prepare adequately for the AFCON in Egypt.

The Amputee African Cup of Nations is scheduled from April 19 to 28, 2024 in Egypt.
