Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has been officially sworn in as the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
In a historic ceremony in Accra, Ghana’s capital, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang took the Oath of Allegiance and the Vice Presidential Oath, officially becoming the country’s first female Vice President.
Her appointment marks a groundbreaking moment for gender equality in Ghana.
In 2020, then-presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama made history by selecting Professor Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate, the first woman to be nominated for the role by a major political party in the country. He repeated this choice in 2024, and with their victory, Ghana now celebrates its first female Vice President.
