President Cup: Hearts beat Kotoko to secure first trophy of the season

Konadu Yiadom’s 57th minute goal secured the coveted President’s cup throphy for the Phobians following a one-zero win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra sports stadium.

The president’s cup is a one-off game involving two clubs selected by the Ghana League Clubs Association to honour the president of the land. The organization of the match is handled by GHALCA to ensure the match is incident-free and befits the status of  the president.

The two giants of the Ghana premier league have had a topsy turvy season after mixed results in the games that they have played so far in the Betpawa Premier league.

Assistant coach for hearts of oak David Ocloo who spearheaded the phobians to victory in the absence of embattled gaffer Slavko Matic expressed his excitement after the game.

“let me congratulate my boys first because they have done a yoo man’s job, I told my other colleagues that my boys are going to work their hearts out to win this game and thank God.

This is just the beginning like I told you we are going to work hard because they promised me they are going to work hard and I know and trust them for that” Ocloo said.

Mean while, Seydou Zerbo head coach of Asante Kotoko attributed the defeat to lack of luck on the part of his team and bemoaned the poor finishing of his attackers which deprived them a positive result in the game.

“All of us enjoyed the game and yes it was very very competitive a team like hearts of oak, they played very well Kotoko also played very well we hope to do well if we could have taken our chances that  we got like it will be a different story. the two teams were very determined to play this match and it was a very competitive game” Zerbo told the media after the game.

Hearts of oak are levelled on points with Kumasi Asante Kotoko both teams with 31 points each with Kotoko occupying the fourth position while Arch Rival Hearts of oak are fifth on the table.

The phobians will travel to Bibiani to take on Bibiani Gold Stars in their next game whereas Asante Kotoko also travel to Sameraboi to face newbies Samartex in the Betpawa premier league.
