The Leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako has also disclosed an enterprising initiative to transform Ghana into a distribution powerhouse for West Africa.
During the launch of the New Force Movement’s 12 pillars for economic revolution in Accra on Sunday, Cheddar highlighted this initiative as the second pillar of his vision, titled “Ghana’s First Water Transportation and Subregional Railway,” in which Ghana’s railway network would be expanded to neighbouring countries, further enhancing regional connectivity.
“Our vision is to develop a comprehensive railway network exceeding 8000 km, that is 1000 tons of steel. We will be able to manufacture our steel and create that 8000km railway truck that will generate billions of dollars if we have to give it out on contract and connect and build the Eastern Corridor and the Western Corridor. And guess what, the gist of this vision is to also drive a railway to the three borders that face Ghana; the one in Togo, the one to Burkina Faso, and the one to Cote D’Ivoire.”
Nana Kwame Bediako also expressed his dismay at the disregard for our natural resources, our water bodies especially, and the underuse of Lake Volta.
He rendered the plausibility of the easy industrial transportation, the enhancement of tourism and the mass revenue it would generate for Ghana.
“In the olden days, our fathers had respect for these natural resources that we came to meet. But today, we do not have value for it anymore. We have to remember that everything we eat on this land is grown by the water on this land. There are many regions we can connect to by connecting the water to Lake Volta. It is the largest man-made lake in Ghana yet, why are people not visiting Ghana to see the Lake Volta? I mean, we are sitting on millions of dollars at Lake Volta.”
This project seeks to connect the nation’s waterways to the expansive Volta Lake, creating inland harbors that will streamline the distribution of industrial goods both domestically and regionally.
