The death of an 18-year-old final-year student from O’Reilly Senior High School in Accra, who was stabbed on campus on Monday and pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital has triggered a crucial meeting between the Ghana Education Service and the management of the school over how discipline is maintained on campus.

The victim, a General Arts student, was reportedly engaged in an argument, with a schoolmate over whose father was wealthier.

This happened after they had finished writing an exam.

This degenerated into fisticuffs and Edward Borketey Sackey was stabbed multiple times.

The suspect has only been identified as Godwin, from the Visual Arts class.

He has been arrested by the police and in custody.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed colleague students in a desperate move, rushing Sackey to the hospital.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A photo of the victim lying unconscious on a white cloth on the floor has also been shared on social media.

This sad news has triggered conversations in the public space about the dwindling lack of care for students in the various SHSs and the rising disciplinary concerns in controlling students whilst in school.
