On today’s edition of Univers Entertainment’s Woman Crush Wednesday, we throw the spotlight on Ghana’s female Gospel musician and song writer, Ohemaa Mercy.
Born as Mercy Amoah in Weija, Accra to Fanti parents, Mr and Mrs Amoah, who hail from Abakrapa and Elmina respectively, Ohemaa Mercy has been an inspiration to many.
She lived most of her young life in Koforidua and undertook her primary education at St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School. Her secondary education was at Ghana Senior High School after which she continued to the S.D.A Teachers Training College, Asokore, where she obtained her Teachers Certificate ‘A’ before moving to Accra.
Ohemaa Mercy began her musical journey with her debut album “Adamfo Papa” in 2004, which immediately catapulted her to fame in the gospel music scene. Her unique style blends traditional Ghanaian rhythms with contemporary gospel sounds, making her music widely appealing to both young and older audiences. Over the years, she has gained recognition for her spirit-filled songs, becoming one of Ghana’s most influential gospel musicians.
The ”Ote me mu” hitmaker, known for her powerful worship songs and ministrations has touched the lives of many in Ghana and across the world.
Some of her most popular tracks include “Aseda”, “Wobeye Kese” and “Obeye Ama Wo. ”
She established the Ohemaa Mercy Ministries, which organizes “Tehillah Experience”, an annual worship event that brings together Christians from across the nation to pray and worship. The event has become a major highlight in Ghana’s gospel calendar.
Her ministry and music have won her several awards, including multiple wins at the Ghana Music Awards and other prestigious gospel music events.
Ohemaa Mercy’s life and ministry continue to inspire many across the world, and her songs are sung in churches and Christian gatherings throughout Africa and beyond.
She remains a testament to the power of gospel music in transforming lives and bringing people closer to God.
