Jamaican reggae sensational artist, Hezron Clarke, who sometime ago discovered his Ghanaian roots has sent a heartfelt message to his “motherland” on Ghana’s 68th Independence Day.
After tracing his African heritage to Ghana, the singer and his Ghanaian promoter Cynthia Raymond visited the country in 2023, meeting prominent figures such as the King of Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Osei Tutu II, who bestowed upon him the Ghanaian name “Kwame Bonsu” and also got the chance to meet the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
In his Independence Day message, Hezron expressed his love and greetings to the people of Ghana and President H.E. John Dramani Mahama, saying, “I wish my motherland happy independence day with lots of love…”
Hezron’s message acknowledged the sacrifices of African freedom fighters, including the Ghanaian first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and expressed his pride in his Ghanaian heritage.
” We need to celebrate the tireless efforts of African freedom fighters like Dr Kwame Nkrumah , Sékou Toure , JB Du Bois , Robert Mugabe and their colleagues for consciously coming together to fight imperialist powers and free the motherland from injustice and penury . Ofcourse with Ghana being a foremost leading light and the cause championed by Dr Kwame Nkrumah ,we need to close ranks and celebrate the successes chalked in these 68 years of nationhood inspite of the challenges also encountered along the way “.
I am very proud of my African and Ghanaian heritage and as such , I always project my identity through my unique ways of making music that captures the hearts and minds of my audience all across the globe “.
