NUGS, MFA to evacuate students from Sudan

National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional integration has revealed its progress on the evacuation of Ghanaian students from danger zones in Sudan.

This follows disruptions in Sudan that broke out between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), both recognized military units in the nation at the time, in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, on April 15, 2023.

The conflict quickly expanded to other cities and villages across the nation, hence putting foreigners as well in grave danger.

According to a communique released by NUGS, two batches of students have been successfully evacuated to Gaderef in Sudan and are awaiting repatriation to Ghana.

“The Union established contacts with the Ghanaian students in Sudan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration announced measures to evacuate nationals from danger zones. Two batches of students (27 and 50) have been successfully evacuated to Gadaref in Sudan and are awaiting repatriation to Ghana.”

The union showed gratefulness to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for their swiftness in the evacuation of Ghanaians from Sudan.

“The union is continuously engaging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and all other stakeholders to ensure that our students are brought back safely.”

The union went on to emphasize on the importance of the welfare of Ghanaian students.

“We are committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of Ghanaian students everywhere.”
