Underscoring unwavering support for the Honorable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, President Kyeremeh further remarked that the breakthrough was a result of the Union’s consistent advocacy and collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring timely financial for students across the country.

“The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is grateful for the government’s prompt response to our calls for action. We also thank the honorable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, for his instrumental role in fast-tracking the payment of student loans and teacher trainees’ allowances. This achievement is the result of persistent advocacy and collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring timely financial support for students nationwide.”

“The Student Loan Trust Fund has already received GHS35 million. An additional GHS25 million remains to be cleared. GHS5 million will be disbursed into the accounts of beneficiaries immediately following this press conference. The remaining GHS20 million will be disbursed exactly two weeks from today, on June 14, 2024, thanks to the diligent efforts of the education minister.”

He also announced that allowances for 58,617 teacher trainees had been cleared and urged principals of institutions who have not yet submitted their students’ data to do so promptly to ensure payments are processed.

“A total of 58,617 teacher trainees have been cleared for payment. We call on all principals who have not yet forwarded their students’ data to do so promptly to ensure clearance and payment. We have been assured that GHS27 million is ready to settle the first two months of the four-month arrears on Monday, June 3, 2024. The remaining two months will follow.”
