The National Service Authority (NSA) is set to shift its focus toward the private sector in a bid to enhance graduate employability.
According to the Acting Director-General of the NSA, Felix Gyamfi, the current job market presents significant challenges for graduates, with some taking up to ten years to secure employment after completing their national service.
Speaking at an orientation for final-year students at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on May 3, Mr. Gyamfi highlighted the harsh realities of the job market and stressed the importance of preparing students for the challenges they may face after national service.
“Most people do not understand the world they are entering after school. Today, many graduates take up to ten years to find employment after completing their National Service.”

To address this issue, Mr. Gyamfi announced plans to increase the number of service personnel posted to the private sector.
“Currently, only about 14% of NSA personnel are posted to the private sector, while over 80% are absorbed into the public sector. We aim to change this by partnering with more private companies and placing greater emphasis on private sector placements.”
“Since taking office, I have emphasized the need to shift our focus toward the private sector, and we are actively engaging new companies to come on board.”
His remarks aimed to provide students with a realistic perspective on the job market and introduce them to the NSA’s upcoming initiatives.
