NIB arrests 2 individuals in relation to plot to oust IGP from office

Officers from the National Investigations Bureau have arrested two employees of the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party , Bugri Naabu in relation with a plot to trigger the removal from office of the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

The arrest comes on the back of an alleged leaked tape recording which has Senior police officers and some politicians linked to the NPP plotting to cause the removal of the IGP from his post which has caused wide outrage among the population.

Speaking in a media engagement, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bugri Naabu revealed that his personal aide and receptionist have been picked up by NIB operatives as part of the investigations into the contents of the leaked tape .

” I have been reliably informed that operatives from the NIB have picked up my personal assistant and receptionist this morning whilst they were reporting for work . Armed operatives detailed from the security outfit were at my office premises to pick up 2 of my workers as part of the ongoing investigations into the leaked audio discussing the plans to remove the IGP from office”.

The NPP leading member added that he has plans to call his lawyers to discuss the arrests and subsequently visit the offices of the NIB to ascertain the reasons behind the arrest of the workers.

The leaked audio which has gone viral contained an alleged conversation between Bugri Naabu and a Police Commissioner called COP Mensah.

The audio uncovered a plot to oust the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare in order to facilitate electoral rigging in the upcoming general elections.

The Police Commissioner in the audio alleges that the IGP will not allow the NPP to manipulate the 2024 elections, thus urging the President to remove him.
