National Secretary of the Ghana National Service Personnel Association, (NASPA) Nana Adu Gyamfi has disclosed plans by the scheme to expand its ICT training programs which would be aimed at enhancing the skills of service personnel and boost productivity in both public and private sectors.
He stated that 106,223 personnel had been posted for the 2024/2025 service year, with additional postings expected by early next week. Registration and validation commenced on September 12, 2024.
Speaking to Univers News, Nana Adu Gyamfi reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to ensure that postings are made ready by the end of the weekend and the adequate training of service personnel to meet the ever growing demands of the digital era.
“Postings will be ready by the end of the weekend. Despite high numbers, we are managing well and ensuring everyone receives their posting.”
“As a growing organization transitioning into an authority, we are committed to our personnel’s well-being. This year, we are focusing on expanding our ICT lab program. Last year, we trained 30 people in various tech skills at headquarters. We aim to increase this to 100-200 participants this year. With the growing numbers, we anticipate further expansion and the introduction of new projects.”
He also emphasized that the National Service program greatly enhances national productivity as it operates like an apprenticeship model by which it supplies organizations with fresh talent, promoting innovation and creativity.
“The National Service program boosts productivity in several ways. For instance, if a company has 15 permanent staff and adds five national service personnel, it effectively increases the workforce to 20, enhancing overall productivity. They also gain valuable experience that prepares them for their careers after university. Additionally, they provide cost-effective support, as their compensation is typically lower than that of permanent staff.”
“Moreover, they contribute to innovation and creativity by introducing fresh ideas each year, ensuring that the suggestions from national service personnel evolve and improve over time.”
The National Service programme in Ghana is a mandatory one-year service for citizens aged 18 and above, aimed at promoting national development. It addresses social issues, provides essential services, develops skills, and fosters unity among youth, empowering them to contribute to their communities and the nation.
