The Ministry of Youth and Sports has instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to request the Confederation of African Football
(CAF) to inspect the University of Ghana Stadium for potential approval as an alternative venue, as the country’s other national stadiums are currently undergoing renovation.

This comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF)
withdrawn its approval of the Baba Yara Stadium as a venue for Ghana’s home games in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

CAF cited that the stadium does not meet the required standards for Category 3 international matches, specifically highlighting concerns about the playing field’s condition.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been asked to find an alternative venue for Ghana’s next home game for the next round of games in the qualifiers since there are no CAF-approved Category 3 stadium in the country.

The University of Ghana Stadium has already hosted CAF Category 2 matches, but the stadium, since inauguration, is yet to be inspected by CAF’s independent inspectors for consideration as a suitable category 3 match venue, in accordance with CAF’s Stadium Regulations.
