Three teacher unions have decided to continue their industrial action after a fruitless meeting with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
The meeting ended inconclusively and has been rescheduled to Monday, November 07, 2022.
On Friday, November 4, 2022, the National Association of Graduate Teachers, the Ghana National Association of Teachers, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana announced a strike.
The unions initiated the industrial action after the government’s deadline to rescind its decision about appointing Dr. Eric Nkansah as the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service passed.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations summoned the Unions to a meeting after they threatened to go on strike.
President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ Reverend Isaac Owusu, expressed optimism for a positive outcome on Monday, November 7, 2022.
He stated that they would report to their members on the outcome of the meeting as they wait for the next meeting.
Rev. Owusu emphasized that they had faith that their worries would be taken into account.
According to Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations Bright Wireko-Brobbey, the Ministry is hopeful that the issue can be resolved amicably.
