Fans of Ghanaian rapper Medikal have expressed disappointment after he missed out on the coveted Artiste of the Year award for the third time.
The 27th TGMA saw Ghanaian drill artiste Black Sheriff take home the most coveted Artiste of the Year award, leaving the camp of Medikal, one of the hot contenders for the Artiste of the Year, disappointed, especially after his third Artiste of the Year Snub.
This year appeared to be another strong opportunity for Medikal to finally claim the crown. Riding on the success of his “Disturbation” 2 album and the chart-topping hit Shoulder featuring Shatta Wale, many fans believed the rapper had done enough to secure the industry’s highest honour. Despite the snub, he left the night as the second most decorated artiste with four awards in total;
Most Popular Song of the Year — Shoulder
Best Hiplife Song — Shoulder
Collaboration of the Year — Medikal ft. Shatta Wale and KOTM
Best Hiplife/Hip-Hop Artiste of the Year.
After his third snub, some die-hard fans spoke to Univers Entertainment, expressing their disappointment.
“I am very disappointed Medikal left without winning Artiste of the Year. This was his year, and his album did very well. Losing it for the third time is not nice, but I know he will make a comeback,” one fan said.
Another fan believed Medikal’s commitment to his craft deserved greater recognition.
“Medikal deserved the Artiste of the Year award, and losing it for the third time is really painful. The level of his commitment and dedication to his work does not match the rewards he gets, but we thank God he won four awards. I just hope he wins it one day,”
As the curtains closed in another memorable edition of the TGMA’s, one question continues to echo among fans: When Will Medikal finally be crowned Artiste of the Year? For now the answer remains in the hands of time.
