Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has been named the new head coach of South African second-tier side Black Leopards – the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Konadu, 51, has agreed to a three-year deal with the club and will be joined by Solly Luvhengo as assistant coach, Thendayo as the goalkeeper’s coach, and Ndlovu as physical trainer.
Black Leopards Chairman, Tshifhiwa Thidiela, confirmed the appointment in an interview with reporters from IDiski Times, stating that Konadu’s proven track record and experience made him the ideal candidate to lead the team back to the top flight.
Maxwell Konadu is a proven coach, having led his previous club to a fourth-place finish and the FA Cup title.
We believe he has the skills and expertise to help us achieve our goal of regaining promotion to the top flight,” Thidiela said.
Konadu, who holds both CAF coaching licenses A and B, will join the club from Nsoatreman FC, where he had a successful season, winning the MTN FA Cup and finishing fourth in the Ghana Premier League.
The experienced gaffer has also had stints with the Ghana national U-20 and U-23 teams, as well as the Black Stars as an assistant coach.
Konadu is expected to fly to South Africa within the week to complete the necessary formalities and sign his contract.
Black Leopards were relegated from the top flight in the 2020/21 season and have struggled to regain promotion since then. The club hopes that Konadu’s appointment will mark a turning point in their quest to return to top-flight football.
