In a turn of events, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, widely known as Manuel Life, and his running mate, Lawrence Egleh, have filed a legal suit at the University of Ghana SRC Judicial Board. The suit challenges their disqualification from the ongoing 2024 SRC election, a decision that has stirred controversy among the student body.
The disqualification of Lawrence Egleh, based on his status as a non-resident student, has been a focal point of the dispute. The candidates argue that the decision violates the SRC constitution and represents clear discrimination against non-resident students.
In their legal filing, Manuel Life and Egleh also petitioned key university officials, including the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs (Pro-VC ASA), the Dean of Students, and the Chief Justice of the SRC. They are seeking an expedited hearing, given the urgency of the situation, with the SRC elections scheduled for 26th August 2024.
The campaign team emphasized the importance of resolving the issue swiftly to ensure that the election process can proceed as planned. “We believe that, in line with fairness and ensuring a smooth electioneering process, the University management will provide a clear timeframe for resolving these legal issues, allowing the 2024 UGSRC Elections to proceed as scheduled,” the statement read.
Manuel Life and his team have vowed to pursue all available legal avenues to rectify what they consider a blatant disregard for the SRC constitution. They are calling on their supporters, particularly those who back the Inclusive SRC agenda, to remain patient and keep the team in their prayers
