Five members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region have picked nomination forms to contest for the party’s parliamentary primary scheduled for Sunday 14th July 2024 in Kumasi.
This follows the appointment of Manhyia South Constituency Member of Parliament Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in line with the party’s constitution.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) today Monday, July 8, opened nominations for interested members of the party in good standing in the Manhyia South Constituency to pick nomination forms and file on 9th July 2024.
The vetting according to the party will be held on Wednesday 10th 2024 while voting for a new parliamentary candidate will be held on Sunday 14th July 2024.
Some prospective candidates sent their supporters to pick the forms on their behalf while some others picked their forms in person.
Danquah Smith Buttey, the New Patriotic Party’s first National Vice Chairman in the region, in an interview with Citi News, said candidates who wish to contest the seat will be required to pay an amount of GH¢35,000 for the filing.
However, females, persons under 40 years old (youth), and physically disabled persons who wish to contest the seat will pay GH¢17,500.
“From today that I have opened nominations, tomorrow we are going to close nominations. We conduct vetting on Wednesday and Sunday when we conduct the election. From tomorrow until Saturday, if anyone has any grievances, they can bring them to the constituency office; they will be forwarded to the regional headquarters in Accra,” he stated.
Prominent amongst the names making the rounds to replace the incumbent MP for the constituency is Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh , biological brother to Napo and also currently holds the Constituency Treasurer post for the NPP.
