Manchester City have been charged with breaches of financial fair play rules following an investigation by the premier league spanning for four months.
There are over 100 alleged charges of which about 50 charges are related to evaluation of the club’s finances and other gross violation of the financial fair play rules with the degree of the breaches being referred to as unprecedented.
A portion of the premier league said:
” Commissions are independent of the premier league and member clubs. the members of the commission will be appointed by the independent chair of the premier league judicial panel, in accordance with premier league rules”
The club will be examined between 2009\10 and 2017\18, with focus on different campaigns re: revenues, managerial contracts FFP and profitability & sustainability.
An independent investigative body have been assigned to probe the charges further and if Man City are found culpable they could face serious sanctions including point deduction or expulsion from the league.
In response to the alleged breaches Manchester City have released a statement which reads;
” Manchester City is surprised by the issuing of these alleged of the premier league rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that EPL has been provided with.
the club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. as such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all”
Manchester City were charged by UEFA for breaches of the FFP rules but evaded sanctions after court of arbitration for sports (CAS) cleared them of charges after winning the legal tussle. unlike the UEFA case, Man city cannot appeal the decision at CAS if found guilty of the charges.
