Swedru All Blacks’ prolific forward, Rudolph Mensah, has strongly refuted suggestions that the Ghana Premier League (GPL) lacks quality strikers.
Citing the 2024/25 season, where the league’s top scorer finished with 15 goals, Mensah argued that the relatively low tally highlights not a lack of talent, but the toughness and competitiveness of the league.
Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona retained the Ghana Premier League ’s Golden Boot award after finishing last season with 15 goals. This marked his second consecutive win, following his 19-goal haul in the previous season.
According to Rudolph Mensah, breaking double digits in such a demanding environment requires exceptional consistency and resilience, underscoring the presence of quality attackers in the local game.
“I wouldn’t say we don’t have quality strikers. We have great players like Stephen Amankona, Faisal Charwetey, and others. The talent is there. But Ghana football has to rise to a level where people start appreciating what we have. It’s not easy to score 15 goals in such a tough league,” he told Univers Sports.
In the just-ended Division One League season, Swedru All Blacks striker Rudolf Mensah lit up the competition with an incredible 27 goals in 30 games.
His clinical goal-scoring ability not only secured him the Golden Boot but also played a pivotal role in guiding his team to a well-earned promotion to the Ghana Premier League.
