Kuffour Scholars UG Chapter on Friday, January 30, 2026 organised seminar to welcome freshmen

The University of Ghana (UG) Chapter of the Kufuor Scholars Program has organised this year’s edition of “What I Wish I Knew in Level 100” to welcome and orient first-year students of the university.

The event was held at the SRC Union Building on Friday, January 30, 2026, and brought together the Coordinator of the Kufuor Scholars Program, UG Chapter, Dr. Pascal Brenya; alumna of the programme,  Zulaiya Sakibu; Senior Consultant and lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Extension, Dr. Nana Ama Aning Oppong-Duah; past and present Kufuor Scholars; as well as students from the University of Ghana and other institutions.

Held under the theme “Own Your Journey,” the programme was designed to equip Level 100 students with essential academic and life skills to help them successfully navigate university life.
Discussions focused on effective communication, confidence building, assertiveness, appropriate dressing as university students, and the importance of participating in extracurricular activities.

A student participant, who attended the programme for the second time, shared with Univers News that the initiative has helped her gain clarity about her future goals.

“I saw the programme advertised in a Level 100 WhatsApp group and decided to attend. The first session encouraged me to return. This year, I have learned the importance of knowing my vision and how it will prepare me for the years ahead,” she said.

Also speaking to Univers News, Kufuor Scholar Erica Kadu explained that the seminar is an annual initiative organised by the UG Chapter of the Kufuor Scholars Program to induct, inspire, and guide freshmen.

“As Kufuor Scholars, one of our responsibilities is to identify problems in society and propose solutions. Because of the training we receive, we also organise sessions like this to share what we have learned with freshmen,” she explained.

Ms. Kadu also outlined the basic requirements for students interested in joining the Kufuor Scholars Program.

“Applicants must be university students and should start early, as it is a three-year initiative. One must identify a societal problem, propose a solution, document the project in a video, and go through an interview process before selection,” she added.

In an interview with Univers News, the Coordinator of the programme, Dr. Pascal Brenya, noted that the Kufuor Scholars Program is an initiative of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, established to sustain his contributions to leadership development across Africa.

While acknowledging funding challenges, Dr. Brenya explained that the programme is solely supported by the former president but remains committed to equipping students with skills beyond academic qualifications.
He added that although turnout for the programme was encouraging, organisers hope to host future editions at larger venues to accommodate more students.
