Asante Kotoko endured a difficult campaign in the just-ended 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament, raising questions about their readiness for both the upcoming Ghana Premier League season and their quest to make an impact on the continent.
The Porcupine Warriors opened the competition with a 2-1 defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars, a result that highlighted defensive lapses and a lack of attacking sharpness.
Their struggles continued in the second fixture against Heart of Lions, where, despite spells of dominance, the team once again failed to turn possession into goals.
Their campaign ended in disappointment with a 2-0 loss to rivals Hearts of Oak on Matchday 3. While goalkeeper Mohamed Camara produced several fine saves to prevent a heavier defeat, the overall performance reflected a team still searching for cohesion, balance, and ruthlessness in the final third.
Despite these setbacks, hope remains. Kotoko will soon turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they will be aiming to restore Ghana’s name in continental football as the preliminary rounds approach.
The Porcupine Warriors know they must quickly address the shortcomings exposed in the Top 4 if they are to compete effectively on the African stage.
The challenge is clear: improve consistency, sharpen the attack, and find the resilience that has defined the club’s most successful eras.
For Kotoko, the GHALCA Top 4 served as both a reality check and a timely reminder that returning to glory will require more than tradition—it will demand hard work, discipline, and belief as they prepare for the battles ahead in Ghana and beyond.
