Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) in the sum of GHC 10 million with two sureties to be justified, after his arrest over alleged fraud and other finance-related offences.
The latest development follows his arrest earlier in the week by EOCO operatives to assist in investigations into alleged financial crimes, including money laundering.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem Sai confirmed that the politician was picked up by EOCO on September 3 to assist the investigative body in probing cases of money laundering, dissipation of public funds, and causing financial loss to the state.
“Suspect Kofi Akpaloo is under investigations by the state for various crimes, including money laundering, causing financial loss to the state, and dissipation of public funds. He has been granted bail to the sum of GHC 10 million with two sureties to be justified, which he has not yet been able to fulfil — leaving him in state custody,” Dr. Srem Sai disclosed.
Mr. Akpaloo, who rose to national prominence after contesting as a presidential candidate, remains one of the more recognisable figures in Ghana’s political landscape.
