The management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) sadly announces the demise of Joana Deladem Yabani, a level 400 student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.
The body of the deceased was found near the school’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre around 5:00 am on February 27, 2025. She was rushed to the University Health Service, where she was confirmed dead.
Investigations have begun by the Police Criminal Investigations Department, KNUST’s internal security, and the University Health Service to determine the circumstances surrounding Miss Joana’s death.
The management assures the university community and the public of its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
The management also urges everyone to desist from spreading unverified information and to respect the privacy of the bereaved family.”
In the past hours after the unfortunate news was circulated and gained national attention , there have some positive developments from the Ghana Police Service after the retrieval of CCTV footages of the incident that triggered the death of the student ,which evidence shows resulted from an altercation with her alleged lover ( name withheld) who has since been in police custody to assist with investigations into the situation in the coming days .
The press release from the Ghana Police Service also assures the Management and entire school population of its best efforts to dig into the matter appropriately and fish out all culprits in the heinous to face the full rigours of the law .
The Authorities of the University and also the related parties are all collaborating to calm tensions and deal expeditiously with the issues once and for all .
In the meantime , security measures have been beefed up in the school to protect lives and property in these trying times .
