Traditional leaders of the Anlo Kingdom in Ghana’s Volta Region have formally appealed to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, seeking his intervention in uncovering the identity of the parliamentarian who verbally attacked Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korle.

In their petition, which was also directed to two MPs who were initially suspected but later denied any involvement, the chiefs urged the Speaker to identify the individual responsible for the offensive remarks. The chiefs have set a deadline of February 10th for a response, after which they plan to decide on their subsequent actions.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, during a parliamentary session when an unidentified male voice shouted, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” The outburst happened while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was speaking, calling for calm amid intense debates concerning the 60th commemoration of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death.

Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings is the firstborn of the late Jerry John Rawlings, Ghana’s former military ruler who later transitioned into a democratically elected president in the early 1990s.
