The Road Transport Operators have announced a 15.3% reduction in transport fares starting Monday, December 19, 2022.
This was in a press release signed by the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Godfred Abulbire, and the General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah.
The statement indicated that the reduction in the transport fares is said to be a result of the recent reductions in the price of petroleum products.
According to Unions, it became necessary to engage stakeholders in reviewing the fares as it is in line with their administrative instrument.
Also, the plight of drivers, commuters, and the general public over the inflicted transportation fares and various negotiations with stakeholders led to their resolve to reduce the transportation fares by 15.3%.
The road transport operators also stated that the fares cover four types of road transport operations, namely, shared taxis, intra-city (TTro-Tro), intercity (long-Distance) and haulage, and called on all commercial transport operators to comply and post these new fares at their loading terminals, as well as on operators, commuters, and the general public to assist in the smooth implementation of these new transportation fares.
The reductions in transport fares covering shared taxis, as well as intra-city (TRO-TRO) and inter-city (long-distance) road transport operators, are listed below.
