Renowned media personality and publicist Tilly Akua Nipaa is boldly rallying behind King Promise as the most deserving contender for the coveted Artiste of the Year at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), and she has the stats to back her claim.

Speaking on At The DJ’s Mercy with Kvng Kelly on Radio Univers on May 2, 2025, Tilly made an emphatic case for why King Promise, whom she currently serves as Public Relations Manager for, deserves the ultimate recognition.

“When you compare King Promise to the others, he stands taller so it made it quite easy working as his PR because then it means he has done enough work to be able to trumpet his goodness,” she asserted.

Tilly clarified that her support isn’t just fan-based but driven by facts and industry metrics.

TGMA vs Grammys: Popularity or Peer Review?

In explaining her recent comments in interviews on the nature of the TGMAs being popularity-based, she made an important distinction between Ghana’s most prestigious music awards and the global Grammy Awards.

“When I say TGMA is popularity-based as compared to the Grammys, I don’t mean it negatively. The Grammys don’t require public voting — the academy decides. That’s why someone could win a Grammy and you might not have heard of them or seen massive streams. With the TGMAs, it’s the populace that gets a say. So yes, it’s about the numbers, but also about who the people choose,” she said.

King Promise’s Global Appeal

Backing her campaign with data, Tilly revealed that King Promise holds the highest number of nominations — 10 in total — at this year’s awards.

She ticked off the qualifying criteria one by one:

Hit songs: “Continental and Favourite Story were undeniable hits,” she argued.

Album/EP performance: “Compare his True to Self album online, the numbers don’t lie,” she mentioned.

Audience appeal: “King Promise excited 5 continents out of the 7 during the year under review. Which other artiste did that?” she emphasised.

And as though that wasn’t enough, she added, “He came back to Ghana to headline his own show. That’s a full-circle artiste.”

With the TGMA fever rising, Tilly Akua Nipaa’s powerful backing may be just what King Promise needs to edge out the competition.
