The Joseph and Elizabeth Quansah (JEQ) Foundation has organized its 2026 Laptop Award Event as part of efforts to improve access to technology and support academic excellence among brilliant but needy students across Ghana.
The event was held at the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Union Building on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, where six students under the foundation’s scholarship scheme received brand-new laptops to aid their academic work.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Co-founder and Co-President of the foundation, Dr. Elizabeth Quansah, said the initiative was aimed at ensuring scholarship recipients have access to the technological tools needed for their studies and community service activities.
According to her, the laptop presentation forms part of the foundation’s broader commitment to supporting students who excel academically despite financial challenges.
“This is the fourth time we are doing the laptop presentation, and the purpose is for our scholarship recipients to get access to technology. Most of them are in school but do not have laptops to do their work. Even the community service we ask them to undertake often requires access to a laptop,” she said.
Dr. Quansah encouraged the beneficiaries to use the devices primarily for academic and professional development purposes.
“We expect them to use the laptops not for games and other non-academic activities, but for their studies. When they finish school and begin work, we also expect them to use them in ways that will be beneficial to them,” she added.
She clarified that the laptops are reserved exclusively for students enrolled in the foundation’s scholarship programme and are awarded based on academic performance and commitment to community service.
“You cannot simply apply and ask for a laptop. It should be through the scholarship programme, and based on your academic performance and the community service you have done, you become eligible for the award,” she explained.
Dr. Quansah noted that about half of the foundation’s scholarship recipients have so far benefited from the laptop support initiative.
She further revealed that all the laptops distributed under the programme are brand new, expressing appreciation to the foundation’s board and partners for their continued support.
The JEQ Foundation continues to provide scholarships and educational support to students across Ghana, with the aim of empowering young people through access to quality education and technology.
