Roberto De Zerbi appointed as new Tottenham Hotspur coach

Tottenham Hotspur have moved swiftly in their fight for survival, appointing Roberto De Zerbi as head coach following the sacking of Igor Tudor.

With the club hovering just above the relegation zone, the decision signals urgency from the Spurs hierarchy as they look to steer clear of a historic drop.De Zerbi arrives with a reputation for progressive, attacking football, having impressed in previous roles with his tactical identity and emphasis on possession-based play.

However, the challenge he inherits is far from straightforward.

Tottenham are currently enduring one of their worst seasons in over a century, struggling for results, confidence, and defensive stability.

A 13-game winless run in the league, combined with poor home form, has left them just a point above the drop zone with only a handful of matches remaining.

The question now is whether De Zerbi’s philosophy can deliver immediate results in a high-pressure environment. While his style is admired, the situation at Spurs may demand pragmatism over aesthetics—tightening the defence, grinding out results, and restoring belief within a struggling squad.

There is also the issue of time. With only a few games left, there is little room for experimentation or a gradual transition. Every point is crucial, and the margin for error is minimal.

For Tottenham, this appointment is more than a long-term project—it is a short-term rescue mission.

If De Zerbi can stabilize performances and pick up vital points, he could prove to be the man who saved Spurs’ season. If not, the club risks one of the most dramatic relegations in its history.

The gamble has been made. Now, the fight begins.
