Uruguay forward Luis Suarez has revealed that “he feels no remorse for his handball” that prevented Ghana from making it to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Luis Suarez was lambasted and vehemently chastised in Ghana and Africa as a whole after his handball impeded the Black Stars of Ghana from making a historic progression to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2010.
Speaking ahead of the game between Ghana and Uruguay on December 2, 2022, the former Barcelona striker insists he feels no remorse for his act.
“The first time I did not say that I was sorry about that because I think the handball did not affect the game, the Ghana player missed a penalty not me. Maybe I could apologize if I tackled a player and injured him and took a red card maybe I can say I apologize, but in this situation, I took a red card, and the referee gave penalty so is not my fault because I did not miss the penalty. You saw the player who missed the penalty, and you said I did it? In this situation is not my responsibility to shoot a penalty” Luis Suarez explained.
Ghana plays Uruguay on Friday, 2nd December 2022 at the Al Janoub stadium in Wakra. After recording a convincing two-one win over South Korea at the Education City stadium in a crunch encounter.
Ghana goes into the game with three points whiles Uruguay have one point after drawing with South Korea in their opening game. A win or draw for Ghana could see the black stars through to the next stage of the competition depending on the result between Portugal and South Korea but Uruguay must win to qualify from the group stage.
