The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reinstated the Head and Senior House Masters of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale, Northern Region, after being interdicted following allegations that a toilet facility was converted into a dormitory for students.

Videos of GHANASCO students using toilet cubicles as sleeping areas went viral, sparking public outrage and leading to the formation of a committee to investigate the matter. The headmaster, Douglas Haruna Yakubu, had denied that any toilet facility had been converted into a dormitory for male students.

However, sources at the regional GES office revealed that the committee recommended the reinstatement of the headmaster and senior housemaster.

The scandal highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Ghana’s education system, including inadequate infrastructure and overcrowding in schools. The GES has yet to release a statement on the reinstatement matter, but many are hoping that steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
